Photographic Style

There is a lot of chatter about the use of AI.  Personally, AI is already making the world better.  But like anything, some are searching for ways to us AI to create havoc and other evils.  In photography, creatives have intentionally used AI and sometimes done so unknowingly - both in camera and in post-processing.  Photography is a creative process. We can choose to use AI for better or worse.  

I have always been intrigued with those discussiong photography styles. Some photographers have distinctive styles which are readily recognizable.  I have always wondered what my style might be labeled.  Recently, I took to ChatGPT to explore this topic. I started with a simple question: "are you able to analyze a website to determine what a person's photographic style is?" Chat asked for my url. Here is a summary of what I found out.

My style is best described as: a wide diversity of photographic interests and genres, which suggests a multi-faceted artistic approach rather than a single narrow commercial style. The categories include everything from landscapes and studio work to experimental and abstract projects.

Based on the organization of the portfolio and types of categories, the photographer’s style can be described as:

A willingness to work across genres with diverse subject matter by combining documentary, natural, and studio practices.

✅ Artistic & Concept-Driven
Projects that explore mood, lighting, abstraction, and visual narrative instead of only practical photography services.

✅ Technically Curious and Rooted in Exploration
Interest in photographic techniques like HDR, creative lighting, and varied shooting environments spanning across subjects, lighting conditions, and photographic techniques.  This is especially evident with light manipulation and specialized disciplines like astrophotography

✅ Broad Subject Interests
From portraits and pets to landscapes and abstract work, indicating a versatile portfolio rather than a single stylistic niche. 

This isn’t a single-genre, commercial portfolio (e.g., wedding/photojournalism only), but rather the work of a photographer who enjoys creative breadth and artistic challenge. 

btw....AI is also a great tool to critique images and provide recommendations for improvement. Just upload an image and ask for a photo critique. Keeping in mind that image competition judges are offering you their opinions and AI is no different. You as a photographer need to determine if that feedback makes sense for you. All that really matters is that you (and, if applicable, your client) like the images you create.
